Please Pray: Tasmanian Abortion Bill on Tuesday

The Tasmanian Legislative Council (Upper House) will be debating the Reproductive Health (Access to Terminations) Bill 2013, on Tuesday 19 November.

This radical bill proposes to:
  • Deny the right to freedom to protest, peaceful, even silent prayer outside a 150 metre radius of an abortion chamber (an access zone), if so they may be fined $65,000 and be jailed for one year. Video recording is also banned in an access zone, and cameras can be seized and destroyed by police.
  • Remove conscientious objections from doctors and nurses:
Doctors and nurses will be required to perform an abortion under “emergency” cases.
Doctors who are pro-life will be required to refer a pregnant woman onto a pro-abortion doctor, or face professional sanctions, such as sacking.
  • Removes free and independent counselling
Any pro-life counsellor will be required to refer a pregnant woman onto a pro-abortion counsellor, or face a $32,500 fine.
  • The complete bill can be read here: http://www.parliament.tas.gov.au/bills/Bills2013/24_of_2013.htm
Current news reports suggest the council will vote 8-6 in support of the bill.
Please pray that members reject this bill in its entirety
